Technology executive, software engineer and entrepreneur with more than four decades of experience across e-commerce, online services and cloud computing, including leadership roles at Microsoft, GoDaddy and LegalShield.

Arnold Blinn is an accomplished technology executive, software engineer and entrepreneur with more than four decades of experience in software development, e-commerce, online services and technology leadership. His career spans several important periods in the evolution of computing, from the emergence of personal computers to the growth of the internet, cloud-based services and artificial intelligence.
Arnold’s interest in technology began during his childhood in central Pennsylvania, when a family friend encouraged his parents to purchase a personal computer. He received a TRS-80 and began experimenting with programming, developing an early fascination with building software. This interest led him to pursue a career in technology, beginning with an engineering role at Oracle before moving into entrepreneurship and emerging software markets.
During the early 1990s, Arnold became involved in developing applications for pen-based computing before co-founding eShop, one of the early companies developing electronic commerce technology. The company built software that allowed businesses to sell products electronically at a time when online shopping was still in its infancy. eShop was subsequently acquired by Microsoft. Among Arnold’s fellow founders was Pierre Omidyar, who later established eBay.
Following the acquisition, Arnold spent a substantial part of his career at Microsoft, working across several important product and engineering areas. His experience included Site Server and Commerce Server, MSN services and Xbox Live. Throughout these roles, he remained closely involved in software development while taking on increasing leadership responsibilities. His work brought him into contact with influential figures in the technology industry, including Satya Nadella, and provided experience in developing and operating software products and large-scale online services.
Arnold later joined GoDaddy in a senior technology leadership capacity, contributing to the company’s engineering development and international expansion. He subsequently held a technology leadership role at LegalShield, continuing to apply his experience in software engineering, product development and organisational leadership. Across these positions, he developed a particular appreciation for the importance of understanding people as well as technology, recognising empathy and effective communication as essential qualities in engineering and leadership.
After stepping away from full-time executive employment, Arnold began exploring a different relationship with work. Although he had reached a position of financial independence, he found that his interest in technology and solving complex problems remained strong. He continues to engage with emerging technologies, particularly artificial intelligence and its influence on software development, while sharing his experience with other technology professionals and teams.
Today, Arnold is focused on maintaining the intellectual challenge and satisfaction of working in technology without the demands of a traditional full-time executive role. His approach reflects a desire to remain involved in meaningful work while making more time for family, travel and personal interests. After decades of building products and leading teams, he continues to value curiosity, learning and the opportunity to help others navigate the challenges of developing technology and growing businesses.
